Our Weekly Worship Services
Our main day of worship is the seventh day of the week: Saturday—also referred to as the Sabbath.
With some exceptions, our weekly worship services at The Avenue Church follow a seven week cycle.
The cycle typically includes 4 regular Sabbaths, and three special Sabbaths—Be The Church, Coffee House, and Jubilee.
Regular Sabbaths
On a regular Sabbath we meet at 10 am for Bible study classes (also known as Sabbath School; see below), then join together at 11:15 am in the main auditorium for a corporate worship service, where we enjoy a time of praise music followed by a message presented by one of our pastors. Around 12:30 pm we invite all to gather for a potluck lunch in our dining hall.
Be The Church Sabbaths
What we often refer to as “Service Sabbath” is an experience that invites us to be a living sermon through intentional acts of kindness. We begin with songs and a devotional thought at 10 am, then share brunch together, and finally divide into groups for a variety of service projects which typically wrap up around 1 or 1:30 pm. Examples of projects include serving lunch at the local YWCA, helping prepare and serve meals at Friendship Inn, visiting residents at Sunnyside Adventist Care Centre, or preparing care packages for various underserved communities.
Coffee House Sabbaths
At Coffee House Sabbaths, while we still meet for Bible study classes at 10 am, at 11:15 am all come together for creative and artistic expressions of faith. Music, storytelling, poetry, and drama all find a home here, as members of every age and stage share their gifts in a warm, coffee-house style setting. Our regular potluck lunch follows the coffee house service.
Jubilee Sabbaths
Jubilee Sabbaths are times of true rest when no services are held at The Avenue. Instead, our entire community pauses from the busyness—even the busyness of church life—to experience God’s presence in creation, in solitude, or with family and friends.

Bible Study Classes
Commonly called “Sabbath School“, these 10 am gatherings typically precede our main service. They are a time to discuss, learn about, and engage in stories, lessons, and life principles from the Bible, in age-appropriate ways.
Note: Our children’s classes offer a “flex year” where a child can choose to advance to the next level of learning, or continue to enjoy the current class, perhaps waiting to transition until a friend reaches the same age.

Other Recurring Programs & Small Groups
Aside from our weekly Saturday services, other programs and groups meet on varying schedules.
Lifeline (Prayer Meeting)
This mid-week pause allows us to join virtually via Zoom to spend a half hour together sharing inspiration from the Bible, and hearing one another’s prayers and prayer requests.
All are welcome to join on Wednesday evenings from 8:30 to 9 pm. The Zoom link is shared via our WhatsApp announcements group. If you need the link sent to you, please contact us.
Youth Group
Our youth group is a great time for ages 13-17 to gather to play games together, enjoy snacks, and be inspired by a devotional thought and discussion time. The group typically meets once every two weeks during the school year, with breaks for the summer. See our calendar for details.
The Chosen
The Chosen is a multi-season series that brings the story of Jesus and His followers to life through relatable characters, powerful storytelling, and authentic emotion. It invites viewers to see Jesus through the eyes of those who met Him and were forever changed.
At The Avenue Church, we gather on a Saturday evening once or twice a month to watch an episode together, and then engage in meaningful discussion of the impact it’s made on us. Watch our calendar for upcoming times and dates.
OASIS (60+)
OASIS stands for Older Adults Sharing In Service. Everyone 60 years and better is welcome for this special time to build community, make and bring friends, share refreshments, and partake in each other’s wisdom, humour, and stories.
Get-togethers typically happen on the first Tuesday of the month, at 10 am. See our calendar for the next event date.
Sunday Crafternoon
Sunday Crafternoon is a relaxed, welcoming space for adults who love to create.
Some events feature pre-planned projects while others are simple drop-in and bring your own craft gatherings.
Pathfinders & Adventurers
The Pathfinder Club is a worldwide organization for young people ages 10–15 that builds character and faith through service, outdoor activities, and hands-on learning in a fun, supportive environment.
The Adventurer Club helps children ages 4–9 and their families grow in faith, friendship, and practical life skills through creative activities, Bible exploration, and community involvement.
Our clubs meet sporadically throughout the year. Contact us for information on how your child can get involved.
